Administration's Year in Review 2024
Wherein the administration recounts the events of 2024.
Major Events and Changes
- In January, the DGD driver was updated from version 1.4.5 to 1.7.3
- At the same time, support for 64 bit signed integers and floating point numbers was added
- Thanks to discussions with Fugetassen@IcewindMud and excellent work by Gaeius, we have converted most areas of IcewindMud for play in its own island on Viking, accessible through an icy vortex in Larstown.
- Four new guilds have been released for play: Lemurians, Warmongers and Ring of Steel from IcewindMud, as well as the all new Golems guild.
- A further six areas/projects have passed QC, and released to play.
Other changes
- Continued cleanup of documentation for wizards and mortals
- 494 changes and improvements have been made to the core mudlib
- 803 bugs have been fixed in existing areas
- Implemented a better tracking system for player reported bugs, typos and ideas
- We have bug-free uptimes!
- 94 new player characters were registered
- We have taken strict control of accesses - FTP and in-mud. See in-mud 'help access'
- Our webpages have been made html5 compliant, accessibility compliant, and displays better on all devices
- Cryzeck has stepped down from administrative duties
- Okjuna has retired from QC duties
- Drake has returned as administrator, keeping the triumvirate going
- Not 2024, but Iomi was promoted to full QC arch level on December 24th 2023
Future
For 2025 (hopefully), we're planning further upgrades, most of them under the hood, but some that will be visible to players.
- Keeping the driver up to date
- Finally get to updating the ancient ftp daemon
- Implement FTPS support, as well as TLS support for regular mud connections
- Once these security improvements are done, implement improved password hash algorithms
- Make wizards manual files as well as regular help files available on the website
- Continue bugfixing
- Hopefully, release more areas, more features and keep expanding
- Maybe even get more active players?
- And finally, Dios will keep our server safe, secure and up to date as always
