After a week's illness, I changed the power supply today. I really hope that is all that was wrong, but I can't say for sure. If the computer stays up for a week or two now, I'll declare that everything's fine. :)

VikingMUD has been experiencing some weird hardware difficulties of late. The reason for the problems, as well as their nature, is unknown. We will try to keep a regular service, but cannot guarantee anything.

VikingMUD was inaccessible for a few hours.

The bottom line reason is that the University of Oslo decided to close their routers for all incoming traffic to the network VikingMUD uses, with the exception of WWW and secure login. Due to additional router (configuration?) failure, VikingMUD was inaccessible on the web, too.

VikingMUD is now back up at a new IP address, 129.240.67.246. Unfortunately, this address takes some time to propagate through the DNS system (the system that converts names like "www.vikingmud.org" to numbers like "129.240.67.246"), so some computers out there will keep on believing VikingMUD's address is 129.240.72.222. If you can read this, it's either cached on Google or your computer is aware of the new address, and you should be able to connect just fine. :)

The web server was down from 2003-04-04 09:48 because of a failed upgrade. It was considered better to leave the server down, because of possible remote exploits.

The MUD was rebooted because of a Linux kernel upgrade, which was necessary to prevent a local root exploit.
