Connecting With PuTTY

Download PuTTY

PuTTY is here.

Check for viruses

After downloading PuTTY, remember to check whether the file is infected by a virus or not with your anti-virus software.

Start PuTTY

PuTTY requires no special installation, it is only a single file; double-click it.

Configure the connection

PuTTY after startup, colorized

The screenshot above shows the startup window for PuTTY. To help you navigate, we have colored what you need to focus on:

  1. Light red/pink: Type "connect.vikingmud.org" here.
  2. Make sure you click "Telnet" under "Protocol".
  3. Light blue/cyan: Replace "23" with "2001".
  4. Light green: Type "Viking MUD" here.
  5. Yellow: Click this button to save the settings.

If you have completed these tasks successfully, and clicked once on "Viking MUD" in the box to the left of the "Load", "Save" and "Delete" buttons, then your PuTTY window should look like this:

Connect

Double-click "Viking MUD" in the select box to the left of the "Load", "Save" and "Delete" buttons.
